Circular Hub™ Event – Film Screening
“Unless we go to Circular it’s game over for the planet; it’s game over for society.” – Prof. Wayne Visser, Closing The Loop.
The Hunter’s Second Circular Hub™ Event
Hosted by Cross Connections Consulting, the Hunter region’s second Circular Hub™ event explored the need to rethink waste and move from a linear ‘take, make, dispose’ economy to a circular economy model where the concept of ‘waste’ is designed out of the system.
The event centred on a screening of Closing the Loop, the world’s first feature-length documentary on the circular economy. Community members and organisations were inspired to rethink and better manage their waste and learnt about the urgent need to ‘go circular’ and develop the circular economy here in the Hunter and across Australia.
The event was an overwhelming success attended by over 100 guests including individuals from the local community, businesses, research organisations, representatives of community and industry groups, government organisations and local councils.
Prior to the film, guests had the opportunity to interact with displays showcasing exciting circular economy initiatives happening in the Hunter Region and across the state. Guests spoke with representatives from several organisations who are actively rethinking waste and progressing circular economy initiatives in the local region. Expert representatives from Plastic Police®, Downer, NSW OEH, Close The Loop Australia and Feedback Organic Recovery shared stories of the circular economy in action right here in the Hunter in a Q&A session following the film.
Low Waste Event
Cross Connections are proud to have delivered a low waste event with thanks to a number of the event’s supporters. The grazing table allowed us to avoid disposable plates and cutlery. Locally supplied Peter Drayton Wines was served in reusable wine glasses, provided by Cross Connections. Water coolers provided by Hunter Water enabled us to avoid single-use water bottles and cups. Feedback Organic Recovery collected the food scraps and used napkins from the event to be composted at their farm. Soft plastics from the Candy Bar and the grazing table were recycled through the Plastic Police® program. Soft drink beverage containers were recycled through Return and Earn scheme, with refunds donated to charity. The event was proudly plastic straw free.
